Frozen Drink Recipes

Frozen Drink Recipes

Summer's here and the time is right for enjoying some frozen drink recipes. Whether you are taking a trip to Margaritaville or doing a daiquiri or two, a frosty glass of frozen delight will help you chill out.

Hot Town, Summer in the City

There are many ways to beat the summer heat. You could crank up the air-conditioner, but that keeps you indoors and it's a shame to waste a summer day. You could head to the beach, but that's usually a crowded, sandy, sticky-with-suntan-lotion situation that ends with everybody cranky and sunburned. I feel the best way to beat the heat is with a grill full of food and a handful of frozen drink recipes.
Not all frozen drink recipes are for grown-ups only. Once you have the blender set up, it is really no big deal to crank out a milkshake or malted for the kids. Once the kids have been chilled out with their drinks, it's time for the adults to have a little relief.

Malted Milk Shake

Usually you have to go to an old-time soda shop to get a real malted. Most restaurants don't keep malted milk powder on-hand so you have to make them at home. You can find malted milk powder at your local market or you can order it online. I prefer the taste of a malted over a plain milk shake and, since most kinds probably haven't tasted a real malted, it will be a surprising treat for them. You may even find that some of the grown-ups ask for one too!

Ingredients

  • 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 1 ½ cups of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons of malted milk powder
  • 3 tablespoons of chocolate syrup (for a chocolate malted milk)

Instructions

  1. Place everything in a blender and blend until smooth.

If You Like Pina Coladas

Nothing says summer like the taste of rum and coconut. Pina Coladas are the perfect blend of these two flavors.

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces light rum
  • 3 tablespoons of coconut milk
  • 3 tablespoons of crushed pineapple
  • 2 cups of crushed ice

Instructions

  1. Place everything into your blender.
  2. Blend at high speed briefly.
  3. Serve.

Hummer

For the grown-ups who like the idea of a milkshake but want something with a little kick, there's the Hummer. No, not the car, the drink. I know nothing puts me in a good mood like a nice afternoon Hummer in the summer.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce of coffee liqueur, like Kahlua
  • 1 ounce of light rum
  • 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Place everything in a blender and blend on low or medium speed until smooth.
  2. Serve in a highball glass.

Frozen Drink Recipes

With the summer's heat coming, you may want to collect as many frozen drink recipes as you can find to keep your cocktail hour rolling. You can always just add a touch of Sambuca to a glass of granita for a refreshing dessert and remember that Margaritaville is just a blender away. .
